On Sunday last in the battle at Corballis Links we narrowly lost out by the last putt on the last hole of the last match.
On a day of high winds and some thunderous downpours we were defeated as twilight turned to night. We congratulate Corballis Links on their win.
In the first leg played on Sunday 19th in Kilmashogue, we led by 3.5 to 1.5 so Corballis Links knew they needed 4 wins at home to capture the Trophy.
We suffered 3 losses and won 1 match as the critical 5th match was progressing. A great effort by John Kinsella and Brendan Sheehan brought them from 5 down at 9 to level the match at 17. In the driving rain and the fading light Corballis won the match on 18.
Our other winning pair was Brendan McGovern and Kevin Burke – Kevin had flown home for the 2nd weekend from his holidays to play the match.
Team on the day included Brendan Blake, Tony Bourke, Brendan McGovern, Kevin Burke, John Corcoran, Patrick Hagin-Meade, Larry Halpin, Peter O’Brien, John Kinsella, Brendan Sheehan.
Thanks to all (15 players) who played their part in the various matches against Deerpark, Celbridge, Malahide, Powerscourt and the 2 Final legs against Corballis. You did our Club proud. For the many who played and watched there were many enjoyable hours, shared with President Emily, Captains PJ and Noelle, VP Jack and the many members who supported the team in the various matches.
As the campaign closed, we can remember the wins and the new friends gained in the clubs we met along the way. There were also some hard lessons that we can apply next time…..
For Brendan and myself it was great to work with the panel.
So for now……………. Thanks All, Jim and Brendan
