Sunday 14 th August 2022 and Kilmashogue win the Best Cup.
Leading by 4.5 to .5 after the home leg of the final Kilmashogue only required 1 point to ensure victory in the competition. It was a really competitive final leg with Kilmashogue winning match 4 on the 17th hole to secure the victory.
The presentation of the Cup and Pennant was made after dinner by Pearse Tolan of Malahide GC (who manage the competition) to myself and I then had the pleasure of presenting it to our Captain Stephen. The team were also presented with their trophies.
Starting in April 2022 we battled through a tough campaign as Kilmashogue beat Stackstown, Carrickmines, Slade Valley, Hollywood Lakes and Roganstown to win the cup.
Thank you to President Jack and Captains Stephen and Barbara for their support during this cup competition. Also to our members and their families who supported the team either at the matches or on live scoring – special mention for John Kinsella, and Emily and Noelle who were ever present at our matches for the last 2 years. Also thanks for Breda’s 12 dozen scones to ensure that the players did not travel on empty stomachs.
Thank you to all the sporting and competitive teams and managers we have met and played with during this campaign.
Critical to the success was the panel of players available this year and 16 players featured in the various matches. Thank you to the panel of players for your commitment, participation and availability for practices and matches. Due to your individual and team performances we put the disappointment of losing last year’s final behind us and achieved our goal of winning the BEST CUP for Kilmashogue.
For memory, the names of the panel are as follows: Brendan Blake, Tony Bourke, Brendan McGovern, Kevin Burke, Larry Halpin, Patrick Hagin-Meade, Brendan Sheehan, Stephen Walsh, Liam Mahony, Tony Egan, Rory Mulvey, Ronan Swift, Jim O’Dea, Jimmy McDonnell, Barry Jackson and Tony Sweeney.
Finally for Brendan and myself it has been great experience (and hard work) to manage our group of players and a source of great joy for our Club to achieve success in this competition.
Thank you All
Jim and Brendan
